okay so i have a tun of memroy being used up.
It runnin at 100% so it says but jaws seem s to be very responsive and IE seems to run well.
Here's what i did to correct the problem so far.
ran AVG 2012
repaired everything in the registrey,
defragged all drives.
Spyware fixes:
Ran Sacurety Asentuals (Found 3 problems and fixed them)
Installed CCleaner ran its registery fixer, disabled all processes I felt really didn't need to start with Windows (such as Realplayer updater, Adobie updater, MagicJack, Windows Live Messenger etc)
Ran Malware bytes and fixed 6 more problems
Ran Spybot Search & Destroy found another 16 problems which got repaired.
Turned off the TTimer.exe processer that runs with Spybot as it i've saw takes up tuns of recources and doesn't need to run.
Turned off all toolbars in IE 8 and uninstalled them (including AOL Search, Expedia, SendSpace, Walmart, Target, etI've found that even if I just have one tab open, 3 explorer processes appear under task maniger. from what I've fond on the net, the problem is that its an IE8 thing and there's really not a fix as of yet.
Here's what I haven't tried so far. Going to services and seeing what windows services are set to start with windows. Do i need them to run?
It seems the process using up the most is JFW.exe. Is that a hog?
I have a P4 with 3.0 GB of DDR3 ram. 3 40 GIG e internal drives, a DVD-RW duel layer burner, a floppy disk drive, and one e elament 3.0 TB driv hooked up. I also have a USB hub with two (sometimes 3 USB thumb drives hooked up, and MagicJack (but MagicJack doesn't run unless i tel it to. the system idal process seems to use a lot of recources too. Things seem to run okay, though bootup isn't super fast, take 'bout 2 minutes and 20 seconds on here. I run XP Pro. Should I be concerned that t there's recources being used up to do idal processes to make spammer money even though I've went t thru the process of doing all this? Sound forge seems to record fine, and everything seems to run wel.
i really wouldn't screw around in services, disabling just one wrong one can really screw your computer up. system idle is one of those you leave alone, and JFW is jaws.
yeah I know that. here's what JFW says.... hmm th'ts interesting. its at 0% now. maybe i have nothing to worry about.
Leave it alone now. Keep it unjunked and you're doing good. That JFW is Jaws For Windows, and it needs to use some resorces. Smile.
You had a clutter issue and that plagues many people. We tend to install to much crap. You've got to many Virus programs, so get one that does all I'd say, or make sure they don't all start when windows does. Run one that does everything and let the others be a backup.
This is my opinion anyway.
Also you say it runs at 100% Remember Windows doesn't use all the physical memory. This is something Microsoft says will be addressed in Windows 8, so we'll see.
that's the thing with services, they change moment by moment. sometimes they spike high other times they're very low in usage. what refresh speed do you have your task manager set at?
the only one that is starting is MSE. what i'm curious about is why would one Spyware thing find certain spywares and another one finds different ones? so even though it says 100% in recources, what exactly did this mean? i like 0 much better.
rat asks: what refresh speed do you have your task manager set at?
I have no idea. how can i check that and figure out what's goin on more in real time?
hmm a on another thought, is there maybe a different way to see processes? like an alturnative to the task manager from Microsoft?
task manager is one of the best, and look in the vew menu at update speed, set it to high and it refreshes instantly. As for why different anty spyware programs find different things is because each program has it's own scanning engine and database. just like how different car companies are slightly different it's the same with those programs.
woah hold on, theres another program called task maniger out there not made by MS? and ah i see i figure runnin 3 different spywares got me good. no? there's a point when its paranoia.
that is the program you're using is task manager.
uh tha'ts what i was thinkin too but then i was like wait maybe he means there's another one made by a different company. lol
there's no view menu dude...
OK.
First, you don't want just -one- antivirus. Malwarebytes, MSE and spybot search and destroy all find different things. So keep them all around, just make sure they don't run automatically (let MSE run automatically for sure, or AVG or whatever antivirus you use). Second, your memory usage may be high--especially if you have pagefile turned off. Unless you're noticing lag though, don't worry about it much. System idle process just handles kepeing your processor going--it's an issue I had to fix in my own OS where the processor would constantly run at max speed. You sort of don't want that. Looks like you've done what you can. There are some services you can disable, but unless you know what you're doing, don't. Just be sure to run CCleaner from time to time, defrag every once in a while and you're set. Also be sure to remove programs you don't use.

not ure if i have Pagefile turned off or not, how do i check? I dont mind disableing services, but I'd need to go thru and see what each service is doing. for instane Card Viewer, the printing service, a few others.
